IM OK Update

We are at T-4 Days until the Inaugural Ironman 5150 Galveston Triathlon.  My brother @teamstevenstri beat me to the punch a few days ago on twitter in saying this is a special race.  In 2009 I was a spectator and my Dad and I watched in amazement as Tobey successfully completed his first triathlon.  It is also special because the venue, Moody Gardens, will be the site of my first Half Ironman 70.3 on April 1, 2011.  This is the day that I will race In Memory of Kaden.  In addition, this is the place I witnessed my first Half Ironman, I believe it was Tobey's second 70.3 race.  That day I set a personal goal of completing this distance one day, it was so personal I kept it to myself for a long time.

I went to the Ironman store there at the race expo and bought this hat to remind me of my goal.  It was only two weeks after I completed my first sprint triathlon.  Reaching a goal of going 70.3 miles in one day without a motor seemed impossible, honestly at times it still does.  I have religiously worn this visor on almost every run over the past 18 months.  You can see from the picture it is pretty dirty and worn.  I have sweated so much that it no longer fits so I used some electrical tape to adjust it.  I've had some good runs and some bad runs in this hat, but it is a constant reminder of a once internal and now external goal.

Goals are critical to success.  The Epilepsy Foundation has goals that your donation big or small will help them achieve.  Our goal for IM OK is to raise $7030, we are already over 10% to our goal and it will take an average of $40 per day for us to get there.  I have faith and confidence that this will happen. Like the hat I now have another special reminder of my goal and it's importance that I see almost every minute of the day.  My hope is that as the out season, as Coach Boo calls it, starts on Monday this reminder helps keep

the fire burning inside to stay focused on the goal during the winter.

Stop Epilepsy - Find a Cure
Over the next month I plan to have some other exciting announcements about our efforts to raise Epilepsy Awareness.  However, I'll leave you wondering for a while.  Did you know that epilepsy and seizures affect nearly 3 million Americans, that there are 200,000 new cases each year and that 10% of the American population will experience a seizure in their lifetime?  The chances are you know someone affected by Epilepsy.

Whether you are a close friend, found this post via Twitter or Facebook or a teammate I hope you'll consider a small donation to our cause.  If you aren't in the position to donate then please repost, retweet, e-mail and do all you can to get the word out.  God bless!
